What Are Fun Rotary Club Event Entertainment Ideas?
If you are a member of Rotary International, you know how important events are to both local and international groups. The Comedian Company works with many fraternal organizations to provide entertainment, including comedians, magicians, hypnotists, and professional speakers, at various clubs across the US. Let’s go over a little bit more about what type of events Rotary Clubs host and look at some good entertainment ideas for your next Rotary Club event.
What is Rotary International?
Rotary International is a worldwide network of members working to improve the world. Their motto is “Service Above Self,” promoting an understanding of goodwill and peace. These clubs are made up of many men and women who work for peace, disease prevention, access to clean water, education, improved health, and the alleviation of poverty, among other important issues in our modern world.
Rotary International currently has around 1.4 million Rotarians worldwide. They have local chapters in over 200 countries. As a nonprofit, they are supported solely by membership dues and fundraisers.
The Rotary Foundation is the charitable branch of Rotary International, accepting donations and funding important projects. Rotary International provides Rotary Club Scholarships for students, which are merit-based and awarded to those seeking to advance their careers or studies in community service.
What Is a Rotary Club?
So what is a Rotary Club? A Rotary Club is the local chapter of Rotary International. Rotary Club Membership requires sponsorship by an existing member and approval by the board.
Members meet often, weekly or bi-weekly, to discuss and plan service projects in local communities. Sometimes, guest speakers address important topics.
Rotary Clubs also hold other gatherings, fundraisers, business networking events, and service project meetings. It’s not all business; sometimes clubs host social events like happy hours, birthday parties, family trips, wine tastings, and more to bring members together for socializing and fun.
What Type of Events Do Rotary Clubs Host?
Rotary International meets regularly for planning, business, and networking, but it also hosts a fair number of public and private events throughout the year. Let’s go over the main types of events that Rotary Clubs host.
Local Service Projects
Each local chapter hosts its own community projects in the following seven critical topics:
- Peace
- Environment
- Maternal and child health
- Economic development
- Basic education and literacy
- Disease prevention
- Clean water
Depending on each community’s needs, your local chapter could host a range of events within these categories.
Fundraisers
On the same note, Rotary Clubs host fundraiser events. These include dinners with ribs or lobster, food drives, auctions, and other events aimed at raising money for their causes.
Conferences
Rotary International holds large conventions each year to bring everyone together to focus on global challenges and projects. Certain districts host annual workshops featuring leadership speakers.
Social Events
There are also many different types of social events throughout the year. From holiday parties and family dinners to regular weekly meetings, members have plenty of opportunities to get together and hang out each month.
