    Freemasonry: A Misunderstood Brotherhood

If you’re a freemason, you’re probably used to your organization being misunderstood. Freemasonry? Like in the episode of The Simpsons when Homer joins the “Stonecutters”? Well, sort of, you might tell them. You might argue that the episode gets some things right, namely that freemasonry is a secret society involving brotherhood where members of a Masonic lodge gather in a Masonic temple (the episode, of course, doesn’t call them “Masonic lodges” or “Masonic temples”). Where the episode misses the mark is when Homer incurs the group’s disfavor by trying to get them to give back to the community.

You might want the curious to know a few other things. For one, the “Scottish Rite” is one of the most prominent branches of Freemasonry. You might also want to inform the public that you indeed have Freemason rituals, albeit they’re not as nefarious as you may be thinking. And yes, you have closely guarded secrets (including what some of the rituals are). Moreover, you might want the general public to know that there’s central leadership in the form of Grandmasters, who are some of the highest elected officials in Freemasonry.

But if you strip away some of the enigmatic nature of Freemasonry, at its core, it’s about fellowship.

And part of fellowship is having Masonic temple events.

Masonic temple events often include volunteer work.

    Masonic Temple Events

While many of these Masonic temple events take the form of community outreach—service days that may include park cleanups, food drives, etc.—there are also “discovery events.”

Discovery events are a bit like “rush week” for fraternities, where potential pledges learn more about the frat in question. During discovery events, the public is invited to learn more about Freemasonry’s ethos and its role in the community.

Masonic temple events can also be about fraternity in a different sense: the fraternity of sharing a laugh. Everyone from the Entered Apprentice to the Master Mason enjoys comedy—laughter is a universally enjoyed trait, after all.

So why not book a comedian from the Comedian Company?

    Who We Are

At The Comedian Company, we’re also about fellowship—a fellowship of comedians whose goal is making good comedy. Our fraternity is in the thousands (albeit not in the strictest sense of “fraternal,” as we also have female comedians). Our ethos is simple: We want to make people laugh. And we’ve been doing a pretty good job of it for decades.

We’ve performed for high schools and colleges, church groups of various denominations. And yes, we’ve performed for different fraternal organizations. We’ve also entertained at Christmas parties and hosted charity fundraisers.

How do you book a comedian for your next Masonic temple event? It’s as easy as reciting the guiding principles of Freemasonry.

    Hiring a Comedian

There’s not much to hiring a comedian for your Masonic temple event. We’ll need some basic information—e.g., budget, the type of comedy you’re looking for, and the date and time of the event. From there, we’ll send you clips of comedians we think would be a good match.

Our biggest draws are our corporate acts and our clean comedians, so we’re sure we’ll have plenty of comedians well-suited to your audience. Regardless of where your Masonic temple is, our roster spans nearly every city in America (with virtual shows also an option), so we’re sure to have local comedians nearby—with many non-local comedians happy to travel to you as well.
